IMPACT OF ICT ON LIBRARY STAFF IN ACADEMIC LIBRARY IN INDIA AND THAILAND: A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Abstract


Libraries are established to provide access to the collected information resources and systematically organized knowledge systematically. The importance of library services have grown over the time with the introduction of new technologies and services in the libraries. The IT infrastructure in the libraries in developing countries like India and Thailand is traditional in many cases. Although India and Thailand have few differences in terms of size, and the contribution of the IT sector does not differentiate, they need to be conducted by modernization through the networking of libraries. Survey method by using structured questionnaire was adopted for the study. The study found that the library staff is necessary to handle and upgrade the technologies continuously. Both university libraries in India and Thailand realizes that the library should focus on IT policy. Many feel it as difficult to work effectively without training.
