Collection Development Policy in the Electronic Era

Abstract

Collection development is one of basic tasks in libraries. In recent years traditional formats for information, such as books and microfilm, have increasingly been supplemented by information which is accessible electronically through the use of computer technology. Hence the existing collection development policy of libraries must include selection criteria and collection parameters covering these new media formats. This paper deals with the concept of collection development, electronic collection and collection development policy.
